Golden
Once the capitol of the Colorado Territory, Golden enjoyed a rich history of mining for which it was named. The importance of the mining industry in the area is marked by the establishment of The Colorado School of Mines in 1874; the school's campus includes the National Earthquake Information Center, where free weekday tours are available.
The Coors Brewery, largest single brewery in the nation, offers tours and samples. 12th Street Historic Residential District is home to the largest cobblestone building in the United States.
Scenic drives include the Lariat Trail; beginning at Hwy 6 and ending at the Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum & Grave in Lookout Mountain Park. Nearby parks offer looks at unique natural features as well as recreational facilities.
