Northwest Region
More than half of this region is public lands, used for fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, rafting, and other outdoor recreation. Steamboat Springs is known for its top-notch powder skiing. The area is rich in Western history, and features rock art and historical markers about Butch Cassidy, the Ute Indian Culture, homesteaders and miners. Wildlife is abundant: deer, elk, antelope, wild horses, bear and mountain lions.
Energy and agricultural resources are abundant in the region, including several coal mines and an electric power plant. The highest city in America, Leadville, is located in this geographically diverse region of Colorado
