LaPorte
LaPorte is located in La Porte County (of which it is the county seat) southeast of Michigan City along Highway 35 and Highway 2 near Kingsbury State Fish and Wildlife Area.
LaPorte is close to many attractions, but pleasantly away from the tourist crowds. A half hour drive to South Bend and an hour and a half to Chicago make LaPorte’s location convenient.
LaPorte was legally established in 1832 and in May of 1832 designated the county seat. In 1835 LaPorte was incorporated as a city. In French, LaPorte means "the entrance way, the door."
