In 1872, Lake City became the county seat by only a one vote margin against Falmouth. It was renamed Lake City in 1877 during the lumber boom, when the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad built a line through there. Lake City was incorporated into a village in 1889 and later as a city in 1932.
Today, many tourists, boaters and seasonal cottagers show up at Lake City during the summer months to enjoy the lake, which frequently seems to change hues and colors, depending on the angle of the sun.
