Concord

Concord is located in Merrimack County and is its county seat and the state capital. The city is situated 16 miles north of Manchester in eastern New Hampshire, on the banks of the Merrimack River. Concord has been the capital of New Hampshire since 1808.The New Hampshire State House in Concord was dedicated in 1819, made from 1,650 tons of locally quarried granite. When Concord was founded in 1727, it was called Penacook, which was changed to Rumford in 1733 and to Concord in 1765. The last home of President Franklin Pierce stands in Concord.

The population estimate for July 1,1998 was 37,444, an increase of 1,438 since 1990.Concord is the third largest city in the state.

There are many attractions and museums to visit in the Concord area including: the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium, Franklin Pierce Law Center, Museum of New Hampshire History, and Bear Brook State Park.
