Albany is located in Albany County, 156 miles due north of New York City in the Central Region part of the state. It lies between Kingston and Glen Falls along Interstate 87 on the banks of the Hudson River. Albany is the state capital. The city's modern governmental complex, construction of which began in 1962, contrasts with its pastoral surroundings along the Hudson River.
