Riverhead is located in Suffolk County on Flanders Bay on Long Island along Highway 51/25 on the banks of the Peconic River in the Southern Region of the state. Riverhead is part of the Nassau-Suffolk, New York metro area.

Riverhead was once known for its Long Island duck farms.
