Findlay, first laid out in 1821, is located in northwestern Ohio in central Hancock County (of which it is the county seat) about 40 miles south of Toledo and 25 miles south of Bowling Green along Highway 224 and 15 on the banks of the Blanchard River. It is named for Col. James Findlay who fought in the War of 1812. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 37,132, an increase of 1,429 since 1990.
