Kent is located in northeastern Ohio in western Portage County just east of Akron. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 26,833, a decrease of 2,002 since 1990.

Those seeking a post-high school education can find it at Kent State University. Nearby recreation includes outings to Lake Rockwell, Brady Lake, Lake Hodgson and Muzzy Lake, all within about 5 miles of town as well as the larger Michael J. Kirwan Lake 10 miles to the east and Mogadore Reservoir 10 miles south of town.

Oak Knolls Golf Club offers 36 holes of public golfing while Sunnybrook at Sunnyhill Golf & Recreation has an 18- and a 9-hole course. Other public 18-hole facilities are Kent State University Golf Club, Maplecrest Golf Club and Raccoon Hill Golf Club. Green Hills Golf Club is a public 9-hole layout for those wanting a quick round.
