Lancaster
Lancaster is located in central Ohio in Fairfield County (of which it is the county seat) about 25 miles southeast of Columbus on the banks of the Hocking River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 37,701, an increase of 3,194 since 1990.
The town is the birthplace of William Tecumseh Sherman. His Atlanta Campaign with the ensuing "March to the Sea" and the capturing of Savannah was a key in ending the Civil War.
Outdoor recreation is about 15 miles to the north in the form of Buckeye Lake and Buckeye State Park. In addition, Valley View Club, a semi-private 18-hole golf course with an open guest policy and Pleasant Valley Golf Course, a public, executive-style 18-hole course await the avid golfer. For novice golfers or those wanting to work on their short game, Pleasant Valley offers a nice little 9-hole par 3-style course.Interesting local attractions include the Wahkeena Nature Preserve, The Georgian, The William Tecumseh Sherman House and Mount Pleasant.
