Maumee
Maumee is located in northwestern Ohio in Lucas County about 10 miles south-southwest of Toledo on the banks of the Maumee River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 14,955, a decrease of 606 since 1990.
Soon after the War of 1812 had ended, the town was platted and, due to its strategic location as a link between Lake Erie and the far west, grew at a rapid pace. As larger ships that couldn't navigate the river were built in the 1850s, the town's growth slowed. After a short "gas boom" in the 1880s, Maumee became "a sleepy little town." Today, as a result of an economic renaissance in the 1970s, the city houses one of the largest business centers in Northwestern Ohio.
Local attractions include the Wolcott House Museum Complex.
Brandywine Country Club offers a regulation 18-hole course and an "executive"-style 9-hole course for its members and visiting members from other clubs.
