Tulsa

Tulsa is located in northeastern Oklahoma in Tulsa County and is the county seat. It lies northeast of Oklahoma City and is sandwiched between the Verdigris River to the north and the Arkansas River to the south.

As a major Midwest hub, the city handles traffic from Interstate 44, historic Route 66, and the Cimarron, Creek, Turner, Cherokee, Indian Nation and Muskogee Turnpikes.

In 1836, Creek Indian immigrants settled the site and named it after the town they left in Alabama. The arrival of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway in 1882 spurred white settlement leading to Tulsa's incorporation in 1898.

Today, Tulsa has nearly one million residents of many nationalities who enjoy its moderate climate. In addition to the 800+ oil firms in the city, the aviation and aerospace industries and a thriving agribusiness industry also contribute to Tulsa's economy.

Tulsa is home to the University of Tulsa, Oral Roberts University, Tulsa Community College, the 2,800-acre, 800-animal Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum and Tulsa International Airport, as well as many gardens and parks.
