New Braunfels
New Braunfels is located just northeast of San Antonio halfway to San Marcos on I-35 at the confluence of the Guadalupe and Comal rivers, where it is the seat of Comal County.
Tourism combined with the continued vitality of the city's industrial sector to sustain a roughly 30 percent increase in the population of New Braunfels for several decades after World War II. The city's proximity to San Antonio was another factor in its growth; in 1973 Comal County became part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area.
In 1990 New Braunfels had a population of 27,334 and extended into Guadalupe County.
